Ripple Prime Enters Leveraged ETF Financing Market

Reporting indicates Ripple's prime brokerage unit is providing swap financing to leveraged exchange-traded funds.

Leveraged exchange-traded funds rely on financing counterparties to generate magnified daily exposures through derivative agreements such as total return swaps. While fund managers charge public management fees, financing brokers earn separate swap borrowing fees that reduce investor yields. According to reporting from The Wall Street Journal cited by CoinDesk, Ripple's prime brokerage unit, Ripple Prime, has entered this segment to finance leveraged stock ETFs.

In one instance, CoinDesk reported that a Tradr leveraged ETF tracking twice the daily move of Sandisk pays Ripple Prime a financing rate equal to the overnight bank funding rate plus four percentage points, totaling around 8% annualized. The financing cost is levied directly on the swap exposure rather than being listed within the standard management fee.

Nonbank financial firms, including Ripple Prime, Jane Street, and Clear Street, have expanded their market presence as traditional banks curtailed financing activities in response to stricter capital and balance-sheet regulations. Morningstar Direct data shows the U.S. leveraged ETF segment encompasses 593 funds holding over $256 billion in assets, including 426 single-stock products.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
