JPMorgan Expands Tokenized Dollar Deposits to the Ethereum Network
The bank is making its JPM Coin deposit tokens available on Ethereum to approved institutional clients for on-chain payments and settlements.
JPMorgan has extended its tokenized dollar deposit asset, JPM Coin (JPMD), to the Ethereum blockchain for vetted institutional clients, Bloomberg reported on October 19. The expansion follows the token's initial deployment on Coinbase’s layer-2 network Base in November 2025, following a pilot phase that started in June 2025.
Emma Landriault, head of JPMorgan’s blockchain division Kinexys Labs, cited Ethereum’s deeper market liquidity and its established presence among institutional participants as the primary reasons for the deployment. Kinexys, which has also announced native issuance on the Canton Network alongside Digital Asset, reports having processed more than $4 trillion in cumulative transaction volume.
Under the arrangement, institutional users exchange standard dollar balances for JPMD through a specialized blockchain deposit account. Crypto businesses can utilize the tokens for on-chain payments, while institutional entities can employ them to settle financial transactions or post collateral. Retail access is not permitted, and all transactions remain restricted to participants approved by the bank.
